Colorado Plateau/ Grand Canyon

The Colorado Plateau parks are perhaps the most spectacular landscape on earth. This tour visits ten National Parks and Monuments as well as Reservation Lands and National Forests and Recreation Areas. Most of the tour is in Utah but we also visit Arizona, Nevada, Wyoming, and Colorado. Distances are not great between the parks and drives are pleasant. In September temperatures will be excellent and much of the area is over 5000 feet. Summer crowds will have gone and fall colors are in full swing. In addition to enjoying many viewpoints, we will have short walks, up to 3 optional miles, that will allow us to experience the habitats and find some fine birds and wildlife. Migrant songbirds and raptors will be passing south and found at oases and riparian areas, and resident species like bluebirds, pinyon jays, nutcrackers and woodpeckers will be seen. Bighorn sheep will likely be encountered, and mule deer, coyote, and perhaps elk and bobcat. The photographic opportunities are remarkable and we’ll watch for special opportunities. It will be possible to sit out some excursions at park lodges or our accommodations.
